A. Program Title:
"Across Cultures"
English Language Arts, Foreign Language, and Visual Art Integrated Learning Activity
B. Program Description:
In what part of the world do you live? What do you experience? What do you believe? What is important to you? By comparing and contrasting the works of writers and visual artists from a variety of cultures, students explore how cultural, personal and world events directly influence a writer’s or visual artist’s ideas, audience and purpose for creating. Choosing a cross-cultural, common theme, students create a work of art to visually communicate their ideas about that theme. Students learn about the works of Käthe Kollwitz, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Ranier Maria Rilke, Langston Hughes and Antonio Machachdo, among others.
